Struggle is Real (Episode #3 – Pocket Vinyl)
In September 2017, regional touring duo “Pocket Vinyl” screened their movie “DRIVE. PLAY. SLEEP” at Sugar City on Niagara Street. Ryan and Dennis sat down with the super-adorbs and uber-talented Eric and Elizabeth before the screening for an in-depth interview. We talk about about the movie (part love-letter and part hatemail to DIY touring), their “project-based” approach to albums, the scourge of mainsplainers, and Elizabeth’s art, which forms a distinctive and crucial component of their live show.
Earlier in this episode, Ryan talks about the November 3rd show he saw at Mohawk Place featuring herMajesty, The Tins, and The Heroic Enthusiasts, while also discussing his hatred of Bon Iver and his deep ambivalence toward the male rock falsetto. Dennis recaps his recent trip to San Francisco, and exposes the rototom-syncing drummer selling CDs of cover songs for $5 to demoralized parrotheads at Fisherman’s Wharf.
