‘A Thief, Not a Liar’ Debuts at Mohawk Place

As I went into Mohawk Place on January 14th, it was a bittersweet moment knowing it would be my last live review for a while. It was the release of MIMIC’s newest EP and I wanted to make this one count. And, boy, did the bands make it unforgettable.

Setting the Stage for a Great Night

The openers started things strong. Oh, Summer Days! took the stage with funky and killer grooves. The crowd was just getting into it as the band Ashford encouraged people to move forward. With songs such as Hypocrite, Flying, and First, the crowd was literally jumping with excitement. One of the most entertaining elements of the show was watching a mosh pit form in front of the stage. While mosh pits are most definitely not allowed at Mohawks Place, this was not one to get in the way of. Ashford really set the bar high and got the crowd head-banging and singing along. It seemed like everyone was in a trance and emotionally charged with the night going great and everything falling into place.

Stellar Steel City Set

Next up was Eternal Boy, a pop punk band all the way from Pittsburgh (Go Bills). They really engaged the crowd and were quite conversational. Eternal Boy even did a cover of We are Never Getting Back Together by Taylor Swift, and I must say they did a great job. I believe you can make anything emo and punk if you switch around the chords enough, so it was perfect.

“This means so much to us.”

The real star of the show was MIMIC, hands down. The crowd filed in front when it was time for MIMIC to take the stage. People jockeyed for a spot in the front row to see them play. The premiere of their EP “A Thief, Not A Liar” featured songs such as My Confession, Careless, and Medicine Man. After their first few songs, the lead vocalist, Alex Vasiloff, stopped and told the crowd, “This means so much to us… wow.” He was blown away by the support from the audience.

This show was another heart-stopper and an unforgettable experience.
A Thief, Not A Liar” by MIMIC is available on all streaming platforms now.
